Bacon and Cheese Wrap

Bacon and Cheese WrapThe first thing I have to say is: Thank God this is so small. If it were bigger, say the size of a Steak Bake, it would literally kill people. For this, dear reader, is a damn greasy snack.

Of course I was expecting this. It’s pastry, and it’s got bacon in it. But this snack isn’t just about the grease. It’s the salt. It’s the cheese. It’s the everything.

The experience of eating one is a bit like that of eating a kebab. Of course it seems like a good idea at the time. You might even get a whiff of the porcine delights within, think, hey, that would be great with melted cheese. You’d be thinking exactly what you’re supposed to be thinking.

I don’t know who first decided to melt cheese on top of bacon. Probably a French person, given the history of the Croque Monsieur. All I can say is that this person was a masochist. And that masochist deserves something in between a medal and a flogging for that they’ve done.

It’s irresistible enough when it’s hot. Just for an experiment, let it get colder. Indeed, let it get to room temperature. Like the Sausage Roll, I believe the lack of heat improves the chomping experience severalfold.

Usually when writing these reviews I have a few nibbles, get an idea of what the food is about, jot down some notes, and then write out the review in full in between bites of said snack. The Bacon and Cheese Wrap was gone within a minute of leaving the bag.

I think this is a good place to wrap it up.

Verdict: Approach with care.

This is the most stupid blog I have ever encountered. You clearly have too much time on your hands. Sad.

Yet you took the time to read AND comment.

I disagree. The Bacon and Cheese wrap is much better when it’s hot. When these first came out, I was gorging on them on a daily basis. I suppose everyone else was too, because they were absolutely roasting when you bought them. The bacon was nice and crispy, and the cheese was lovely and gooey! Now though, not as many people are buying them and, as a result, they’re sitting on the shelf in Greggs for longer and getting cold by the time someone buys one. As a result, I’m put off them now.
